No match does not mean an enquiry is genuine. We document only what has been reported to us and verified.

The tactic

How the scam works

Three steps, and they repeat almost unchanged. Anyone who recognises the second one loses no money.

  1. Fake enquiry

Fraudsters send convincing requests using stolen identities and documents.

  2. Only supplier

They claim exclusivity and pressure the company to bypass normal checks.

  3. Advance payment

They demand upfront payment and then disappear with the money.

Warning signs

Six checks before you pay.

Most fraudulent supplier enquiries repeat the same warning signs. You do not need special tools to spot them.

View the complete checklist

  1. Only one supplier

The part number appears on one website and nowhere else.

  2. Free e-mail address

A large company contacts you from Gmail or Outlook.

  3. Lookalike domain

The reply address is slightly different from the real company.

  4. Advance payment

The unknown supplier requires payment before shipping.

  5. Newly registered domain

The supplier claims a long history but its domain is young.

  6. No registration number

The company details cannot be verified in an official register.

If two or more signs match, stop and verify before paying.

Every statement on these pages can be verified independently. None of it rests on hearsay.

Registration data (RDAP)
Creation date, registrar and name servers come straight from the registry and are re-queried weekly.
Archived evidence
Every documented page is saved to the Internet Archive before it disappears. Fraudulent sites vanish; the evidence must not.
E-mail headers
Return-Path, SPF, DKIM and DMARC are evaluated automatically, and senders that diverge are named.
Facts and assessment kept apart
Documented facts are kept separate from our assessment. Every page carries a correction form.
